I just graduated from high school and I have wanted to be a part of this for quite
some time. I am going to try to make the story short but it is emotional so here
goes…
I can remember several years ago my aunt Kathy showing me a
newspaper article telling about this group of girls who shaved their hair to benefit
cancer patients. She thought it was the coolest thing in the world and I agreed…
those girls had to have a lot of courage to do something like that! I am not sure
how long after that, but all too soon we got the news that Kathy had leukemia
…it has been nearly three years since Kathy passed away and I never forgot
that newspaper article. In May of last year Jade, the D.J. on my favorite radio
station (89.7 power fm) shaved her head and talked about it on air. I took a look
at the Shear Hope website and I knew that it was what God was calling me to do.
In April I went to East Texas Baptist University and tried
out for the Cheerleading squad, and to my surprise I made it! Though it was exciting,
it put a damper on my enthusiasm to shave my head…I was very worried that
it would affect my cheerleading, but after talking with the coach and the captain
of the squad, and getting their encouragement and prayers, I was back on a roll
and I am ready to be involved with this amazing mission….I am counting down
the days until I shave my head and know that my aunt Kathy is watching down on
me, just brimming with excitement.
